Makunouchi rikishi Database
[Sumo Home] [Yusho and Sansho Home] [Credits and links]
Please observe that while the HTML part of this web site is not updated since July 2000, I have now fully updated the MAIN Excel file, to include the Kyushu basho of 2001

This page is the mainpage of the Makunouchi rikishi database,
containing info about all participants (rikishi) in the top division
in pro sumo since the beginning of the ranking system in 1757.
It also contains info about all top division yusho and sansho (prizes)
awarded.

The MAIN file, made in Excel 97, being the origin for all HTML pages
(except those regarding yusho and sansho)
and containing a few additional notes, is available here:

Any comments or suggestions for the site are welcome!

All data comes, if nothing else mentioned, from the excellent
Japanese language original by Atsuo Tsubota :
http://radar.sci.hokudai.ac.jp/~tsubota/door1.html

Juryo entry, favorite techniques, birth and death data, Makunouchi
division record, heya info and misc. corrections comes from
the book: "Ozumo Rikishi Meikan 1999" (ORM), kindly and patiently
provided to me by Andras Ledeczi , who also has a Sumo hompage at:
http://www.szumo.hu

The Juryo yusho info comes from the following great Japanese language site of Takayama Kazuhisa.
It also contains a lot of info on each and every Makunouchi rikishi, and I have used it to add data not found elsewhere.
In the Excel file, it's referred to as "Takayama" or sometimes as "ref1".
